India's coal imports recovered to 4.20 million tonnes (MT) during 12–18 July 2026, up from 3.83 MT in the previous week, as both power utilities and steelmakers stepped up overseas procurement.
Steam coal imports rose to 2.41 MT, compared with 2.34 MT a week earlier, while coking coal imports climbed sharply to 1.78 MT from 1.49 MT, signalling stronger demand from the steel sector. Indonesia remained India's largest supplier of thermal coal with 1.29 MT, followed by Russia (0.60 MT), the United States (0.16 MT) and South Africa (0.13 MT).
